HYUNDAI SAYS ‘METAMOBILITY’ WILL LINK REAL AND VIRTUAL WORLDS

Hyundai Motor envisions an interactive and partly virtual future it calls “metamobility,” in which a wide variety of robotic equipment interact with humans to offer a large vary of mobility companies, from automatic own transport to distant manage of robots in  factories.

Hyundai executives, led by Chief Govt Euisun Chung, elaborated on the vision all through a push conference at the annual Buyer Electronics Exhibit in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Buzzwords apart, Hyundai strategies to leverage its developing experience in robotics and artificial intelligence to build  a future mobility network that connects humans in the real world with objects and duties in the virtual world.

The notion is connected to the so-referred to as metaverse, a phrase coined 30 many years ago by author Neal Stephenson, but which not too long ago obtained attention  when social media organization Facebook modified its title to Meta Platforms Inc.

It refers to shared virtual environments. world that persons can obtain by the Net and that they can  use  virtual actuality or augmented actuality. Hyundai offered several illustrations of how it could connect the metaverse and the real world:

– A motor vehicle that can be remodeled into a operate house or an leisure area that contains a 3D video video game system.

– A “smart” factory wherever humans exterior the plant remotely manage robots that interact with devices and products and solutions inside the plant.

– Automated own transportation equipment for persons with disabilities or people today who want to preserve social distances while traveling.

To make all this operate, the automaker mentioned it was constructing a Mobility of Matters ecosystem that will link modular robotic platforms to conduct unique mobility companies.

One particular module referred to as Plug & Travel or PnD is a single-wheel robotics system that combines intelligent steering, braking and suspension with in-wheel electrical drive, cameras and lidar sensors for automatic operation.

For bigger logistics duties and other mobility companies, Hyundai can bundle 4 PnD modules, such as one software that pairs with a robot puppy referred to as – what else? – Spot.
