Telstra stops offering 100Mbps services for NBN FTTN/B/C users – Telco/ISP

Telstra has stopped supplying 100Mbps companies to people in NBN Co’s fibre-to-the-node, curb and basement footprints.

The cease of sale, which was initial claimed by CommsDay, signifies that people of FTTN, FTTB and FTTC can only indication up to a most 50Mbps program when connecting by way of Telstra.

“We have built a choice to only supply high quality pace (NBN100) on FTTP [fibre-to-the-premises] and HFC [hybrid fibre coaxial] for the time currently being,” a Telstra spokesperson verified to iTnews.

“The explanation for this is simply because a variety of our clients on FTTN/B/C do not have connections that are able of achieving 100Mbps.

“It is generally the case that clients that indication up to these ideas will be subsequently notified that they simply cannot attain leading pace and end up downgrading to a reduce program or leaving.”

The spokesperson indicated that there was much more to the cease sale but would not disclose exactly where the telco’s pondering is.

“We want to make certain these clients have the very best probable practical experience when connected to our ideas and hope to have some information before long,” the spokesperson stated.

For now, people hoping to indication up with Telstra would be offered a most of 50Mbps speeds.

The cease sale is probably to be a major embarrassment for NBN Co, but much more so for the Coalition govt which pushed for copper-centered companies to be used in the NBN rollout.

Retail services suppliers have earlier been fined by the Australian Opposition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for signing FTTN/B/C people up to ideas that their traces are incapable of achieving.

This has led RSPs to indication FTTN/B/C people up to minimal-tier ideas and supply upgrades afterwards only when they can be certain of what the line can do.

However, in Telstra’s case, FTTN/B/C people can only upgrade to a most of 50Mbps, and simply cannot get speeds outside of that, even if their traces can go more rapidly.

Up to 75 % of these FTTN/B/C people under no circumstances see the topline pace of their ideas.

NBN Co has preserved this could not be an difficulty, considering that the user could be keen to pay out for a 100Mbps services to get increased than 50Mbps speeds. However, that only works when RSPs supply it as an selection.
